write the book
In the beginning, this was an action item on a list. In 2010, I wrote down ten things to do in the next ten years and “Write a book” was on that list. I didn’t know what it would be then, I just hoped that someday I’d have a story to share. That same year I started writing down lessons that God was showing me through everyday events and notes I always wanted to remember about this life. Somewhere along the way it occurred to me that this content could be the book, because I knew that keeping all this insight and experience to myself was a waste. No matter what job I was at or which city I lived in, this kept coming up for me, a feeling and force inside that I must “Write the Book.” It became more of a mantra than an item on a to-do list. It became something I’d write down for motivation, a reminder that this life is too short to not do the things you’ve always felt called to do and to contribute to this world.
Today my book Don’t Wear Shoes You Can’t Walk In: A Field Guide for Your Twenties is officially released and available for purchase everywhere books are sold. It’s a bit of a wild feeling to have been dangling your feet over the edge of a dream realized for so long and then to suddenly just get to jump in. I hope that you’ll check out the book and that it is helpful to you, whether in the way I intended for it to be or in a way completely unique to you. And as we depart for now, I hope to leave you thoughtfully making plans to do that thing you’ve always wanted to do but haven’t had the chance to yet. Whatever it may be, go write the book.
